Think candies, and you’ll think of childhood memories, all sorts of colors, and the incomparable feeling of a sugary candy melting in your mouth.

We all have sweet (both literally and figuratively) memories associated with the wonder called candies.

While recently watching an episode of Unwrapped, I was delighted to know that I had stumbled upon an episode that unwrapped the history of candies and the secrets that go into their making.

The victim of a sweet tooth that I am, I couldn’t stop myself from drooling over all the tempting candies that filled the screen. In fact, I ended up getting a download of that episode and adding it to my collection of my favorites from Unwrapped.

But well, that’s a different story.

What I am here to share with you guys, are some of the most amazing facts that I learnt about candies, on the episode.

To start with, as always, it was interesting to know where this delicacy gets its name from. It turned out that the word ‘Candy’ is derived from the Persian word ‘Qandi’, which stands for cane sugar.

I must say, that one of the things I love best about candies is their name. It so suits the treat that they offer the taste buds!

Watching the colorful images of everything, right from gum drops and tart candies to hard candies and taffies, unfolding on the screen, can be difficult to watch for ones, who loves these sweet treats.

But then, once you get through it successfully, you’re sure to enjoy your next candy binge more than ever, knowing the story behind each one of them.

For instance, did you know that the basic mechanism behind preparing all types of candies is the same?

It involves heating a mixture of sugar and water or milk, till it crystallizes?

Sounds simple?

Well, you’ll know better when you watch the candies actually being made, and then realize the intricacies of temperature, time and technique that go into the making of each type of candy.

Tune in to the candy-special on Unwrapped. I promise you won’t regret it!

Food Network – the television channel that airs shows on cooking and food just recently attracted a passionate food lovers’ throng.

The presenter of the food show “Unwrapped”, Marc Summers was seen there too!

Wondering why? Continue to read the strings of words further!

‘Restaurant: Impossible’ is one of the popular food shows of Food Network, of which Marc Summers is the Executive Producer.

The Mad Cactus is one of the restaurants in Strongsville, which caught the attention of the production team of the show, including Marc.

The restaurant met the criterion set by the show and got chosen as its latest target. Wanna know why it got selected? It had a terrible interior décor, making it an utterly untidy zone.

Marc and his team, going by the show’s format, had to make the so-called impossible mission of renovating the in-shambles Mad Cactus restaurant, and that too in 2-days.

They let nothing to escape their creativity! Right from the restaurants’ walls, ceilings, to menu card, were offered a much-needed sheen by Marc and his talented team.

I wish I too had a kitchen like this messy eating place! If not any profit, at least it would have given me an opportunity to meet Marc Summers in-personal.

Marc is having an amusing time working on Food Network’s shows.

On one show, he is keeping up the spirits of an eating place’s owner by shaping an entirely new environment of the otherwise failing restaurant. And on the other show, he is traveling from one place to another, searching for food-related settings, and revealing origins of varied food items!

To satiate your taste buds, oops! Not directly, but by means of your eye balls, download the famed food show ‘Unwrapped’ and enjoy the delicacies served! And remember, your learning will make you a better cook! It’s all you need to impress your loved ones. Quiet easy, isn’t it?

Along with unwrapping varied cuisines of different food zones in “Unwrapped”, Marc is truly having a great time renovating the broken dreams of the restaurant owners in Restaurant: Impossible.

Hmm, after much food-food talk, I have started to starve for some. Please give me food Marc!

Marc Summers- the name itself is an institution of excellence!

The Unwrapped star, who has been charming us for longer than we can remember, has gone on to become one of the most renowned men in the entertainment industry. He has always been portrayed as a fearless and fun-loving man, who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

When we take a look at the Disney days of Marc, when he hosted unforgettable shows like ‘What Would You Do’ and ‘Double Dare’, we can remember him watching kids getting smeared in nearly every possible thing, right from pastries to poop. And how can we forget the occasional smears that Marc was subjected to!

While that may sound like a lot of fun to any normal guy, the truth that few of us know is that Marc was far from normal at the time of these shows. He suffered from a disorder, which served as a huge impediment to hosting these shows.

Marc was a victim of OCD, and was obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness. Even though some may brush off the fact that he had to spend all his working hours in something that he utterly loathed as a hilarious irony, the truth is that it was anything but funny.

In fact, it was a torture that he had to endure every single day of his life. For a man who winced at the very thought of disorder, watching children around him creating a mess and going completely berserk must have been an unspeakable challenge to go through.

Now that’s what we call a man of substance! A humble bow to the man who made America laugh for years, and now rules the terrains of the food entertainment industry!

To watch him exploring the choicest cuisines in Unwrapped, really does evoke hyperactivity in our taste buds, which certainly remains online, whenever this show is on.

It’s a tricky task- writing about a show as good as Food Network’s Unwrapped; the author can easily get distracted by all the food items on display and start blabbering about them, while forgetting about the show.

No offence to the show’s charming host, Marc Sommers, but it’s kind of hard to focus on what he’s saying when on the table lies a smoked tenderloin with the horseradish sauce. Yeah, it’s not easy being a food writer, I can tell you that!

But, there’s no denying the ingenuity of this show, ‘Unwrapped’, as the name suggests that the most common theme of the show is unwrapping the history of all the common food items.

Like, did you ever wonder that the hamburger you can gulp down in seconds, where did it come from? Are Belgian waffles really Belgian, or they’re just called by that name?

In short, it is a deliciously tasteful and a deep insight into the history of food and anything even remotely related to it. And Marc Sommers certainly adds more verve to the proceedings; he’s like the perfect topping on this mélange of a variety of food items.

Now Marc Sommers and his show are headed to the sets of the famous culinary challenge based show, Iron Chef (the American version), and this edition promises to reveal some of the back stage secrets and a lot more about the show itself, and also the exquisite food they prepare.

And soon, Marc and his crew will set off to explore everything that comes under the category of summer snacks, and that will include everything from Kool Aid to ice creams; lots and lots of ice creams.

Some other drinks and snacks under Marc’s scrutiny will be the famous drink, Wendy’s Frost and the A&W Root Beer, and the show will take the viewers behind the scenes and take a good look at the unexplored things.

That is why viewers still love this show, even after its 10 years long airing journey; and to pacify their cravings for something extra, people love to download some special episodes from Unwrapped.

Marc Summers may have gone from being the awkward Reebok-clad youngster on Nickelodeon’s ‘Double Dare’ to becoming the unofficial food ambassador of Philadelphia, yet here’s one man who’s still grounded to his roots, and loves being remembered for his Disney days.

While many may assume that Marc would want to shake off his Disney image and be known as the food expert that he’s grown to be, the iconic host thinks differently. He admits that he would hate to be recognized for the 1980’s show if it was a ‘one-hit wonder.’

However, as we all know, the show was much more than that, and was indeed more of a revolution than a momentary wonder. He says that he loves the fact that people still remember him as the host of the show.

He goes on to share that he’s stopped nearly ten times every week in the streets of Philadelphia by somebody who was a participant on the show. The good part is that he isn’t the slightest bit embarrassed of that, and feels as flattered as ever!

No wonder that Marc Summers is a globally-loved television personality who’s hardly ever been in the news for the wrong reasons!

Recalling his initial days, Marc shares that when he first came to Philadelphia to shoot for the show in 1986, he was new to the town, and felt like a total outsider. Little did he know that it was his first step towards stardom!

Now, 25 years later, he’s honored as the de facto food ambassador of the city. Being credited for attracting immense positive attention to the city, he avers that he would do anything to shift the spotlights to Philadelphia. You bet!

You can watch the man unwrapping some of the most mouthwatering delicacies by tuning in to Unwrapped online!

When one thinks of ‘Unwrapped’, the first name that pops in the mind is ‘Marc Summers’. It’s impossible to imagine what the show would be like without him. It seems that the people behind Food Network, which airs the show, know that perfectly, which is why while all the other non-cooking hosts have been fired from the network over the years, Marc still has his job intact.

The amazing part is that as one watches the show, it’s impossible to believe that Marc has no culinary background. The expertise that he projects when he talks about food is far from amateurish, and at many points, even better than what many of the so-called ‘professionals’ have.

So how exactly did Marc go from being just another game show host to becoming one of the television’s most celebrated food show hosts? Well, all thanks for the transition go to a man named Judy Girard, who was his co-worker on Life Time.

Judy approached Marc with the idea of a show named ‘It’s a Surprise!’ At that point, Marc was out of work, and was desperately searching for a substantial offer, which is why he grabbed the chance without any second thoughts.

Even though the show, which invited e-mails and pictures from fans, did not perform well, Marc’s job was well-appreciated, and it was this show that laid the foundation of his association with Food Network. One thing led to another, and before he knew it, he was hosting ‘Unwrapped’.

There’s been no looking back for the iconic host ever since, and now 10 years later, he’s more than a household name. He’s one among America’s food ambassadors to the world. You can watch the man himself unwrapping foods that we eat everyday, deciphering their origins, and mesmerizing you with facts that you could barely imagine. Just tune in to Unwrapped online now, and be a part of this food extravaganza!

At first sight, Marc Summers, the iconic host of ‘Unwrapped’ comes off as just another regular guy with a charming persona and a smile worth a million!

I mean, he is all that.

However, as one probes deeper, it’s not long before you realize that this guy has a lot going on beneath his calm persona.

How do I know all this?

Well, Marc is a dear friend of mine, and he told me all this.

What?

You don’t believe me?

Well, you are right in not doing so, because I found out most of the stuff from his new book.

The title of his book, ‘Everything in Its Place’ says it all!

The book elucidates Marc’s battle with the crippling psychological disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which he had been battling unknowingly for years, before it was diagnosed. Having undergone treatment for the disorder, he’s emerged as a new human being, who worries less, and lives more!

However, the transformation in this phenomenal TV personality has come after years of perfectionism, brought about by the disorder. In retrospect, there’s no denying the fact that Marc has always pushed himself beyond his limits, whether in the role as the host of the 80s game show, ‘Double Dare’, which made him a household name, or in his latest stint on ‘Unwrapped’.

Today, this guy is totally the food connoisseur that we all would want to be!

If Marc’s scintillating persona makes your heart beat faster, then you can download all seasons of Unwrapped right away, and savor all the delights that the show has for you, waiting to be unwrapped!

Hey guys!

You have explored the delicious world of food through the incredible Unwrapped series. Even as you continue the journey to discover the roots of common and not-so-common delicious dishes, allow me to introduce you to a new side of the host of the show!

I am, of course, referring to Marc Summers, who has been hosting the show over the course of ten seasons. By being a perfect company on the journey to the world of food, Marc has been delighting the fans with his insights on the show.
But, Marc also has his weaknesses, one of which happens to be OCD!

Yes, the famed television personality actually suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!

Hold on and take a chill pill guys as this isn’t some major illness that afflicts the host! In fact, OCD happens to be a minor anxiety disorder that is quite common. However, if unacknowledged, the disorder may result in quite serious manifestation.

But, coming back to Marc, we can rely on our favorite host to overcome such obstacles! Marc had gone public with his condition quite some time ago on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, and has not been shy in revealing the struggles that he had to undergo in order to overcome his disabilities.

As a matter of fact, Marc also wrote a book called ‘Everything In Its Place: My trials and Triumphs With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder’, which revealed his trials and tribulations in a detailed manner.

According to Marc, OCD also has its positive aspects, something which he has utilized to facilitate his performance as a television host and further, his ambitions. This is indeed a brave response from the guy since OCD can severely impair the quality of one’s social interactions!

So, apart from food, there are other areas in which we can imbibe lessons from Marc! Three cheers to that!
